“Improving awarness and prevention of thalassemia and other haemoglobin disorders (AWAPRE-globin): a pilot project in Albania

Overall objective:

Promoting early diagnosis of genetic haemoglobin diseases and urging voluntary blood donation

Main activities of the project:

-Maintenance works in the Public Health Center of Divjaka;

-Establishment of a lab for the diagnosis of the inherited haemoglobin diseases in the Public Health Center of Divjaka;

-Supply with sanitation equipment and lab materials;

-Training of the technical staff working in the lab on the diagnostic protocols of the inherited haemoglobin diseases;

-Pilot examination of the population for the identification of the inherited haemoglobin diseases;

-Activities for promoting voluntary blood donations.
