Protection of environment through Integrated Waste Management in Durres Municipality

Specific objectives:

- To stimulate integrated waste management through adequate and comprehensive planning;

- To stimulate sustainable economic development and environmental protection through promotion of recycling and waste management;

- Empower cooperation and partnership amongst and between citizens, enterprises and institutions for preparing and implementing projects and joint initiatives.

Main activities:

- Development of the Integrated Local Waste Management Plan;

- Conduct baseline assessment of environment sustainability and municipal waste management in Durres Municipality;

- Preparation of baseline assessment and satisfactory evaluation through survey for citizens, students and officials on awareness of environmental protection, waste management and recycling;

- Identification and establishment of the “Eco-Green Club” in Durres Municipality;

- Implementation of the “Innovation Challenge” with participation of schools for reduction of waste;

- Infrastructural investment of waste bin and cages for the collection of recyclable waste (plastic and cardboard) at schools;

- Municipal Solid Waste in Durres municipality is managed according to the National and European Standards of Integrated Waste Management including collection, treatment, monitoring and evaluation;

- Municipality of Durres implements good practice measures of Green and Circular Economy;

- The inhabitants of Durres municipality at large are informed of good practices on the new integrated waste management system in their territory.
