Building adequate services to local agricultural producers by establishing a fruit and vegetable marketplace for a sustainable local economic development

Specific objectives:

- Contributing to the sustainable agricultural development of Elbasan region through the creation of a green marketplace and regional branding of local products in order to increase employment opportunities of rural farmers and preserve and promote regional agricultural authentic products;

- Establish a fruit and vegetable marketplace in Elbasan serving as a unique form of organization with the involvement of all regional food-chain stakeholders from farms to customers;

- Boost self-employment opportunities for farmers from rural areas of Elbasan through a marketplace with services that ensure satisfactory selling of their agricultural product;

- Develop sustainability and replication effects of the project.

Main activities:

- Reconstruction of the fruit and vegetable marketplace;

- Building capacities for a sustainable fruit and vegetable marketplace; safeguard local food traditions and ensure quality and safer food to customers ;

- Training sessions on waste management;

- Develop a procedures manual of the marketplace operation;

- An economic business plan on how to make the marketplace self-sustaining after the project finishes;

- Promotional campaign and public relations activities for the marketplace.
